Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 20, 2026

OpenReader ("the app") is a fully offline Android document reader. This policy explains what happens (and, more importantly, what does not happen) to your data when you use it.

No data collection

OpenReader does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. Specifically, the app:

What stays on your device

To provide features like Recents, Favorites, and Search, OpenReader keeps a local index of documents you open, stored in an on-device SQLite database and local app preferences. This index never leaves your device and is not accessible to the app developer or any third party.

File and storage access

OpenReader requests storage/file permissions solely to discover and open documents you choose to read, and to support "Open With" and "Open From Other Apps" integrations. Files are read and rendered locally; they are never sent anywhere.

Push notifications

The app includes Firebase Cloud Messaging integration for potential future push notifications; this is currently disabled and not active in released builds. This policy will be updated if and when that feature is enabled.

Children's privacy

OpenReader does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children, because it does not collect data at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this same page with a revised "Last updated" date.
